Warning of Droughts in Kent
This year has seen the hottest April since records began. May has so far not been so warm but there has been little or no rain in the last couple of months.
Fruit pollination in the south-east finished before the end of April this year and blackberries in some places are in full bloom along with poppies on the verge of the M20.
Swarms started at the beginning of April but are far fewer and some beekeepers have reported colonies failing to build up. Added to that, we are now facing a major drought in the south-east. Nature is currently in the middle of June and all this could mean disaster for unaware beekeepers so keep an eye on your colonies to ensure they do not suffer as a result.
